This is Frans Wuytack's truly inspiring and overwhelming story. Unchaining a social and cultural revolution in the 60's he changed the lives of many people, from the Venezuelan slums to the Belgian Ports. PERSONA NON GRATA is an epic journey, made by his son, documentary filmmaker Fabio Wuytack.
PERSONA NON GRATA is the epic story of Frans Wuytack’s life. After thirty years of exile, he returns to South-America with his son, film director Fabio Wuytack. Their overwhelming journey reveals the Venezuelan slums, where Frans unchained a social and cultural revolution as a young priest in the 60’s. A blend of humorous and touching characters from the slums take Fabio on a voyage through the maze of his father’s exciting past. The poetic film style lifts the story over the borders of a biopic and confronts us with some of the most important moments in the second half of the 20th century.

Persona non grata vertelt het aangrijpende verhaal van Frans Wuytack die na dertig jaar verbanning samen met zijn zoon Fabio terugkeert naar het legendarische Latijns-Amerika. Op hun overrompelende reis ontdekken ze de Venezolaanse krottenwijken, waar Frans als rebelse priester in de jaren '60 een sociale en culturele volksrevolte ontketende. Fabio ontmoet er talloze kleurrijke figuren die hem meenemen in het labyrint van zijn vaders verleden. Hun humor en warme naturel geven een onweerstaanbare authenticiteit aan dit poëtische epos.
Filmmaker Fabio Wuytack (°1981) maakte met de hartverwarmende documentaire MADE IN ITALY doorbraak in de Internationale festivals. Hij ontving 18 Internationale prijzen, ondermeer de publieksprijs op het kortfilmfestival te Parijs, en documentaire prijzen in VISIONS DU REEL (CH), BARCELONA, SAN FRANCISCO, TRENTO (Italie), Libanon, Portugal enz. en jureerde op het festival LeuvenKORT en het TIDF (het internationaal documentaire festival in Taipei)
